Joe Kiani is the Founder of the Patient Safety Movement Foundation and is on the Board of Directors. A medical technology entrepreneur and campaigner for patient safety and innovation in healthcare, Kiani launched the Foundation in 2013 with the goal of eliminating preventable patient harm and death in hospitals. His team worked with patient safety experts from around the world to create Actionable Evidence-Based Practices that address the top challenges. The Foundation’s Annual World Patient Safety Science & Technology Summit convenes hundreds of leading clinicians, Ministers of Health, hospital administrators, patients, government employers, private payers and medical technology leaders from around the globe.
Kiani is also the Founder, Chairman and CEO of Masimo Corporation which has pioneered new ways of improving the accuracy of non-invasive patient monitoring. He is the co-inventor of what is now recognized as “modern pulse oximetry.” His innovation reduced false alarms in pulse oximetry by 95% and helped reduce blindness in premature babies and identify the existence of congenital heart conditions in newborns.
