Public Outreach Tips

If you’d like to volunteer your time introducing hospitals and healthcare organizations to the Patient Safety Movement, here are some tips.

Step 1: Visit our Website

Visit the PSMF’s website and explore the full list of committed hospitals to see if there is someone already involved. If so, feel free to contact that hospital contact directly.

For full list of Committed Hospitals, follow the link here.

Step 2: Do Your Research

If you didn’t find an involved contact on our website, you may be able to find this through the hospital’s website, general web search, your email directory, or through LinkedIn.

Who is a good contact?

If your hospital has a Patient Safety Officer (PSO) this is a great place to start. If there is no PSO, see if you can find someone with “patient safety,” “quality” or “risk management” in their title, or perhaps the Medical Director. If you are unable to connect to the Medical Director, contact a member of the Patient Safety Movement Foundation’s Board of Directors.

Step 3: Outreach

Contact the person you’ve identified by phone or email sharing how you’re involved or why you’re passionate about patient safety. (Sample email template). Please feel free to share the PSMF’s resources with them.

Follow-up.

It’s always a good idea to try following up if you don’t hear back after a few weeks.

Step 4: Circle Back

Fill the PSMF team in on your outreach and the level of interest of your hospital so we can plug them in. We’re happy to include you in further discussions or take it from there. Email [email protected]
