Amy Vilela is a businesswoman, military spouse, politician, and healthcare justice activist. Vilela got involved in activism and politics in 2017 following the death of her 22-year-old daughter, Shalynne, who was denied appropriate care at a local emergency room when she was unable to provide adequate proof of insurance. Her daughters’ story has been featured in numerous news articles and two documentaries, including the Sundance Festival Favorite documentary, Knock Down the House.
