Christopher Denton, MS, LPC

Patient Advocate

Clinical Director, Heartwood Counseling

Christopher Denton is a Licensed Professional Counselor with 20 years of experience working in the healthcare industry.  Throughout this time, he has experienced healthcare delivery from the perspective of an entry-level technician; an out-patient licensed provider; a provider in in-patient/residential and wilderness settings; an end-user of community-based EHR systems; a provider of both public and private-based health insurance; and most recently, through the implementation of telehealth services to support clients during the pandemic.

Living in a small rural community, Chris has witnessed the challenges of an evolving health care system and the direct impacts it has to both the consumer and provider of health care.  Chris is often required to coordinate with multi-disciplinary agencies (including healthcare, law enforcement, and social services providers).  Chris is grateful for his time spent advocating for and implementing services to support families in his community as board member for the Family Access Network member of KIDS Center’s team in Central Oregon.

Currently, Chris operates a private practice in Bend, Oregon providing direct services to adults, children, adolescents, parents, couples, and families.  As Clinical Director, he is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the clinic’s daily operations.  Chris is currently navigating the complex healthcare system to expand his practice in order to extend the services his practice is able to provide to the community.

On a personal note, Chris became involved with the Patient Safety Movement Foundation after his mother died of cardiac arrest in a hospital setting, post-septic recovery.  He is immensely grateful (and humbled) l to be asked to be part of such a special team.
