Elizabeth Namugaya Igaga, MD

Anesthesiologist and Critical Care Intensivist

Kampala, Uganda

Elizabeth Namugaya Igaga is an anesthesiologist and intensive care physician and one of the Patient Safety Movement Foundation’s 2022 Fellows.

Having worked in various acute medical settings across Uganda, Igaga has developed a strong interest in patient safety after experiencing multiple firsthand medical errors during her residency that either resulted in near misses or catastrophic outcomes. Since then, she has been passionate about fostering and building a culture of patient safety in perioperative care in Uganda.

She is now Director of Safety and Quality at Smile Train, an international children’s charity that works with doctors and hospitals across Africa to provide free cleft lip repair surgery and care.
