James Titcombe, OBE
Ambassador for Baby Lifeline and Patient Advocate
James is a former Project Manager in the Nuclear Industry. His life changed when his son Joshua died at Furness General Hospital. James led an extensive campaign, which finally resulted in the Morecambe Bay Inquiry, and a subsequent national review of maternity services.
James has formerly worked as the National Advisor for Patient Safety for the Care Quality Commission and was a member of the government’s expert advisory group set up to help establish the Healthcare Safety Investigations Branch. James currently works in a part time capacity for Baby Lifeline, a charity supporting improvement work in maternity services across the UK, is a member of the Expert Advisory Panel for the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman and is a Trustee of the charity Patient Safety Watch. James is also an associate editor for the Journal of Patient Safety and Risk Management (JPSRM).
James’s book ‘Joshua’s Story’ was published in 2015 and James was awarded an OBE for services to patient safety that year.
