Sanaz Massoumi is the Chief Operating Officer for the Patient Safety Movement Foundation. In addition to a deep passion for patient safety, Massoumi has extensive experience in working to create more reliable healthcare systems, and her role with the Foundation involves overseeing day-to-day operations, growing partnerships with other patient safety organizations, and working to spread awareness of industry best practices.
Having previously served as Director of Regulatory and Patient Safety at Keck Medicine of the University of Southern California (USC), Los Angeles, and Patient Safety Officer at USC’s Keck and Norris hospitals, Massoumi brings unique expertise in working with healthcare leaders, policymakers, innovators, and patients to advance patient safety causes. During her time at USC, she helped oversee the accreditation and licensing process at the Keck and Norris hospitals by the Joint Commission and California Department of Public Health, as well as develop patient safety initiatives and proactive risk assessments to improve care outcomes.
Massoumi has also served as Senior Director of Performance Excellence and Health System Innovation at Tagnos, a hi-tech healthcare start-up. She has worked with major hospital systems, including St. Joseph Hospital of Orange and White Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles to improve their patient flow, patient experience, room utilization, care outcomes, and operating room cycle time.
Inspired by the many accomplished and caring patient safety experts she’s encountered throughout her education and career, she is committed to leveraging her knowledge and experience to bring necessary and positive changes to benefit patients worldwide.
