Bruce Barraclough, AO, MBBS, DSc (Hon), FRACS, FACS

Chair, Macquarie University Hospital and Clinic's Clinical Risk, Safety, and Quality Committee

Bruce was formerly a Consultant Breast and Endocrine surgeon at Public and Private Hospitals in Sydney from 1974 to 2005, with an academic attachment to Sydney University. He was President of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons from 1998 -2001. In 2000, he was appointed Professor of Cancer Services of the University of Sydney at the Royal North Shore Hospital.

In subsequent years his main interests and involvement have been in surgical education and  improving health care safety and quality, through his work with the World Health Organization as a member of the “Safe Surgical Teams working party” and Chair of the WHO “Safety and Quality  Curriculum development” working party; as Chair of the Expert Advisory Group to facilitate the establishment of the University of Western Sydney Medical School; as Board Chair of the New South Wales’ “Clinical Excellence Commission”,  inaugural Chair of “the Australian Council for Safety and Quality in Health care” and as President of the International Society for Quality in Health care.

He is currently Chair of the MQ Health Board’s Clinical Risk, Safety and Quality Committee at Macquarie University Hospital and Clinic.
