As a clinician, researcher and thought leader, Dr. Wilson helps Masimo improve patient safety by bringing the most advanced non-invasive monitoring technologies and devices to hospitals, clinics and now into the home. As a member of the Masimo Executive Team, Dr. Wilson advises healthcare leaders worldwide on monitoring systems and ideas that can improve patient outcomes and reduce the cost of care.
An internationally recognized clinician-scientist, teacher, and patient safety advocate, Dr. Wilson has served as editor-in-chief of four major textbooks, authored or edited hundreds of scientific papers and review articles, In addition, he has provided more than 300 invited lectures around the world.
Dr. Wilson completed his medical degree at Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He received surgical training and completed a Critical Care Fellowship at UC San Francisco. He then completed an Anesthesiology Residency and a Fellowship in Adult and Pediatric Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology at UC San Diego Medical Center.
Between 1989 and 2013, Dr. Wilson served as Vice Chair of Anesthesiology, Director of Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine (ACCM), and Director of the ACCM Fellowship program at UC San Diego. He also was Co-Director of Trauma/Surgical ICU at UC San Diego, and a Founding Co-Director of the Neuro ICU, and Co-Director of Sulpezio Cardiovascular ICU at UC San Diego.
Dr. Wilson was recruited to UC Irvine Health in 2013 to oversee all ICUs as Director of Critical Care Medicine, with clinical professorships in Anesthesiology, Medicine, and Surgery.
Between 2017 and July 2021 Dr. Wilson served as Chief Medical Officer at UCI, where he led improvements in patient safety, quality and experience. Including Achievement of 5 Star Status within the Patient Safety Movement Foundation. He also was awarded the Steven Moreau Humanitarian Award by the Patient Safety Movement Foundation In 2018. Dr. Wilson joined the Masimo executive team in August of 2021 as Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President for Clinical Research and Medical Affairs.
