Maren Batalden is the Chief Quality Officer at the Cambridge Health Alliance, an integrated community health system serving seven towns in metro-northwest Boston, Massachusetts. She is professionally prepared as a general internist and works clinically as a hospitalist. She is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and has been teaching quality and safety for nearly 20 years to medical students, residents, graduate students and mid-career professionals with a focus on the importance of partnership with patients in advancing quality and safety.
Though she is primarily focussed on service and teaching rather than research, she was the lead author on a 2016 paper published in the British Medical Journal on “coproducing” care with patients and families. The Cambridge Health Alliance is a safety net institution with a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. As a leader she is committed to designing systems that facilitate effective partnership between patients and clinical teams. She has a particular interest in addressing challenges of partnership across boundaries of race and class and culture.
