Michael L. Millenson, president of Health Quality Advisors LLC, is internationally recognized as a leader in promoting the use of information to make care better, safer and more patient-centered. The author of the critically acclaimed book, Demanding Medical Excellence: Doctors and Accountability in the Information Age, Michael has testified before Congress, lectured at the Harvard Business School and consulted on strategy to a broad range of organizations.
National Public Radio called Michael “in the vanguard of the movement” to measure and improve medicine. His book inspired the first “zero harm” initiative, the Pittsburgh Regional Healthcare Initiative, and he was cited in a New York Times editorial on the To Err is Human report. He also helped with the launch of the Leapfrog Group and was a founding member of the Chicago Patient Safety Forum. He is a long-time board member of that group’s successor, Project Patient Care, and is one of the many champions affiliated with Patients for Patient Safety.
Michael was recently appointed to the National Advisory Council of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and he is also part of a National Academy of Medicine workstream on the role of financial incentives in the U.S. health care system. In addition, he serves on the board of the Optimal Cancer Care Alliance.
Prior to starting his own firm, Michael was a principal at a major human resource consulting firm. Before that, he was a health care reporter for the Chicago Tribune, where he was nominated three times for a Pulitzer Prize.
