Amy Ashcraft serves as the Deputy Regional Inspector General for the Office of Evaluation and Inspections within the HHS Office of Inspector General (OIG). The Office of Evaluation and Inspections provides objective, reliable, data-driven evidence to HHS, Congress, and the public on significant issues. With a career spanning over 25 years, Amy has dedicated significant effort to enhancing patient safety among Medicare beneficiaries and improving HHS programs.

Amy led a high-impact series of national reports on patient safety, including the groundbreaking 2010 report that established the first national rate of harm and its recent update revealing that one in four Medicare patients experienced harm during hospital stays. She is currently overseeing work focused on incident reporting and hospital policies regarding adverse events.

Throughout her career, Amy has worked to improve Federal healthcare programs.  Her expertise includes oversight of healthcare entities, nursing home quality, Medicare payment systems, management of Indian Health Services, and emergency preparedness, including the COVID-19 response. She has received numerous awards, including OIG awards for excellence in evaluation, cooperative achievement, and innovation, as well as the Bronze Medal (Employee of the Year) and the Award for Excellence from the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency.

Amy holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Austin College and a Master of Public Affairs from the University of Texas at Dallas.
