Lisa Athens is the chief risk officer at Baylor Scott & White Health, the largest not-for-profit health system in Texas. The system’s integrated delivery network includes Baylor Scott & White Health Plan, Baylor Scott & White Research Institute, Baylor Scott & White Quality Alliance and its leading digital health platform, MyBSWHealth. Through 51 hospitals and more than 1,200 access points, including flagship academic medical centers in Dallas, Fort Worth and Temple, the system offers the full continuum of care, from primary to award-winning specialty care, as well as an array of virtual and in-home services.

As chief risk officer, Athens oversees Baylor Scott & White’s enterprise risk management strategy, claims and litigation program, insurance program, and regulatory function. In addition, she works alongside clinical leadership to advance zero preventable harm efforts. Most recently, she served as the system’s vice president, general counsel – regulatory operations and as vice president, assistant general counsel. Earlier in her career, Athens was a partner and managing partner at Burford and Ryburn, LLP.

Athens received her Juris Doctor from St. Mary’s University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Arlington.
